Your coach is easier to reach this time around.

Search everything

A new Search tab finds any pace, spot, or purchase from one field — and it understands how you'd actually ask. Type "coffee last week," "eating out this cycle," or just "wednesday," and it reads the time out of the question and looks there. Your pay cycle counts as a unit of time, too: "last pay period" means exactly what you'd expect.

Spotlight knows your places and your days now, as well. Pull down on your Home Screen, type "coffee," and jump straight to the pace, the spot, or a purchase by the day you were actually there — without opening SpotFunds. It searches the where and the when; amounts never leave the app.

To make room, the You tab moved to a button on the Today screen. It seemed like a fair trade: a tab for configuring the app, exchanged for a tab for finding things in it.

Ask your coach anything

You can now ask your coach questions in plain language — whether you can afford lunch, what a $40 weekend would do to your pace, how last cycle went. It answers from your own spending.

On the latest iPhone software, your coach can borrow Apple's private cloud for a moment to work out an answer. Only your question and the few facts needed to answer it are sent. The answer comes back, and nothing is stored along the way — not by us, and not by Apple, who designed that cloud so that not even Apple can see inside it. Your location is never sent.

Rehearse a spend

Tap an amount on Today and watch what it would do to your pace before you commit. Nothing is saved, so try as many as you like. And if you'd rather just ask, your coach answers the same question in chat: "What if I spend $40 this weekend?"

Paid on a day, not a date

Your cycle now anchors to the day you actually get paid, including every-other-Friday schedules.

The app now opens on what you can spend right now: a greeting, your paces, and where you are in your cycle — instead of a list of what you already spent.

Paces, not budgets

Budgets are now paces, and transactions are now activity. The words changed because the idea did: a pace isn't a limit you hit, it's a rhythm you hold.
